Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We are grateful to Simon Parkes Conservation Inc. for preparing the following condition report (written communication 5 March 2021):
The canvas has never been removed from its original stretcher. There is vertical cracking that is slightly raised, particularly in the sky. This cracking can only be eliminated if the canvas is lined, which is not recommended. The paint layer seems to be clean. A few cracks have been reduced with retouching in the chest of the brown horse. There do not appear to be any other retouches. The work could be hung in its current state.
