The surface is stable and there is light surface dirt present. The canvas has been wax relined. Some craquelure has developed in the sky and tree at center left and center of the foreground. There is some minor scuffing along the extreme lower edge due to frame abrasion. A repaired horizontal line is faintly visible in the left sky near the tree line. Under UV light inspection, there is retouching at the extreme edges and along the right and left edges. In the sky, there are a few scattered dots and areas of retouching including a two inch by three inch area in the left side. There is retouching in the sky above the left side of the horizon to address areas of paint separation and aforementioned repair. There are clusters of dots of retouching in the ground around the black and white dog and adjacent tree trunk and near the lower right corner. There are areas of retouching around the figures in the left middle ground. There is retouching to address quarter-inch size area of paint loss in the foreground at right, about six inches form the bottom and four inches from the right.
