Anna Akhmatova (pen name of Anna Andreyevna Gorenko, 1889-1966)
An inscribed portrait. 1962
Portrait photograph, signed ('Akhmatova') and inscribed to 'the Kozlovksys' [Aleksei Fyodorovich Kozlovsky (composer and conductor, 1905-1977) and his wife Galina], Moscow, 8 October 1962.

115 x 84mm, inscribed in Russian on the verso.

Signed photographs by Akhmatova are rare at auction: no examples are recorded as having been sold on ABPC or RBH. By the early 1960s, Akhmatova had been to a degree rehabilitated in Soviet public life, and was increasingly acclaimed as one of the last great Silver Age figures. The Kozlovskys had been friends of Akhmatova's since at least the 1940s: A.F. Kozlovsky was principal conductor of the Uzbek Philharmonic from 1949, as well as an academic at the Tashkent Conservatory.
