Encouraging the career of a young writer. Merezhkovsky asks the recipient to publish an upcoming writer, Ivan Osipovich Girin, in the Novaya Zhizn' (New Life) magazine.

Rosenfeld was a journalist and publisher, also known under the pseudonym I. Olgin: he was chief editor of Novaya Zhizn' in 1912-13.
