Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin (1870-1953)
An 'overworked' Bunin in Capri. 1912
Autograph postcard signed to Yelena Andreevna Telesheva, Capri, 15/28 January 1912.

In Russian. One page, 92 x 140 mm.

Overwork and weariness whilst staying with Gorky in Capri. 'I am so overworked – and worked to the bone at the same time, again! – that I forgot to thank you for the Loti and to say that if it benefits someone in Sreda, I would be very happy to hand it over'; he signs off 'already ill with weariness'.

Bunin spent the winters of 1912-1914 in Capri, where he stayed with Gorky, even if the present card suggests that the atmosphere was not much to his liking. The recipient was an artist, and the wife of the author Nikolai Teleshov (1867-1957): together they organised the Sreda (Wednesday) literary circle which included Bunin, Gorky, Andreev and others.
