Bunin asks Nikolai Klestov for a favour, requesting that their publishing company subscribe him to the bulletin of Kradievsky for a year.

Nikolai Klestov (1873-1941), who wrote under the pen-name “Angarsky”, was a communist writer and a revolutionary activist. Repeatedly arrested and exiled by the Tsarist regime in the decade after 1905, he went on to hold a number of official positions under the Soviet regime, including as trade representative in Lithuania (1929-31) and Greece (1932-36); he was arrested on charges of espionage in May 1940 and executed in the following year after a forced confession.
