Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin (1870-1953)
Captain, Here I am sitting in Cannes, in a bistro…’. 1930
Autograph postcard (signed only with his nickname, ‘Uncle Martin’) to Nikolay Roshchin, [postmarked Cannes, 19 August 1930].

In Russian. One page, 103 x 149mm, one line cancelled at upper margin.

Captain, Here I am sitting in Cannes, in a bistro…’. After noting that his wife Vera is ill and an amusingly profane complaint about his writing implement: ('ugh! Fuck it – it's not a pen, it's a needle!'), Bunin reports contentedly from a bistro in Cannes, where 'every day I travel here and pose for three hours [for a portrait by Savelli Sorin]. It went swimmingly, now I am drinking beer and writing'. He mentions medication (perhaps for Vera) and concludes with a startlingly profane anecdote about a young acquaintaince name Popol: 'All details when we meet'.
