In French. Half page, 210 x 133mm, on a bifolium with Turgenev's printed address and monogram.

Confined to his bed by gout: 'I am a miserable sufferer from gout, I cannot move from my bed, I cannot come to this evening's banquet – I am good for nothing, but to shake your hand and assure you that I am as vexed as one can possibly be...'.

Juliette Adam (1836-1936) was an author, salonist and feminist. She was the founder and first editor of the Nouvelle Revue.
