In German. One page, 204 x 129mm, on a bifolium with embossed initials 'IT'. Provenance: Moirandat, 2 November 2015, lot 491.

On the German publication of the short story 'Strannaja istorija' ('A Strange Story'). 'The good opinion of the translator pleases me greatly and I shall hope that it will be confirmed. / I am completely in agreement with the appearance of the story in the October volume of Salon – and can also put off the publication in a Russian periodical until December – so by a month. / Looking forward to the dispatch of the proofs and the manuscript ...'.

The poet and author Julius Rodenberg (1831-1914) was co-editor of Salon für Literatur, Kunst und Gesellschaft from 1867 to 1974. 'Strannaja istorija' was eventually first published in the January 1870 edition of the Saint Petersburg periodical Vestnik Evropy, and in vol.5 of Salon in the same year (with the title 'Eine wunderliche Geschichte').
