Pauline Viardot will not be singing Gluck. 1872
Autograph letter signed ('I. Tourguéneff') to G. Chenavard, 48 rue de Douai, [Paris], 28 March 1872.

In French. One page, 183 x 116mm, on a bifolium. [With:] letter by Chenavard in reply, 29 March 1872. Provenance: the letter by Chenavard has the stamp of the 'Collection Viardot'.

Pauline Viardot will not be singing Gluck. 'There will be no musician tomorrow ... and Mme Viardot will be obliged to play the piano as accompanist; which means that she will not be able to sing any Gluck; thus you are forewarned'. Chenavard responds with his regrets.

The recipient is the artist Paul-Joseph Chenavard (1808-1895), a pupil of Ingres.
