Konstantin Dmitriyevich Balmont (1867-1942)
A postcard from America. 1905
Autograph picture postcard signed (with initial, ‘K’) to his mother Vera, New York, 15 July [but postmarked 14 July] 1905 .

In Russian. Text alongside the image on the recto, the image depicting buffalo at the Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, 88 x 140mm.

On the wave of impressions': a postcard from America. Balmont writes at the conclusion of a visit to Mexico and California: ‘My dearest mother, forgive me for not having kept my promise of writing to you. But I love and remember you. I am on the wave of impressions. It is impossible to write. I kiss you and papa. Leaving for London…’ .

Balmont’s travel notes and sketches from his visit to Mexico and California were later included in Serpent Flowers (1910). On his return, he played an active part in the 1905 Revolution, and was obliged to flee into exile in Paris, where he remained until the amnesty of 1913.
