Lot Essay

Sun Ah Book Center opened its doors in 1968 and has provided a trading platform for Hong Kong and overseas scholars of literature, history and philosophy for over half a century. In addition to operating two bookstores, the Center organized many large-scale events in the past, including twenty-six antique books auctions, the “1930s Out-of-Print Antique Book Fair”, and the “Shenzhen National College Foreign Edition Literature and History Book Fair”.

With the enthusiastic effort of its founder Tsang Sook Yin and her son Dr So Keng Chit, Sun Ah Book Center is warmly welcomed by the book and manuscript collectors community. The Center sold countless ancient books of Ming and Qing Dynasties, and manuscripts of Shen Congwen, Zhou Zuoren, Albert Einstein, Zhang Ailing, Hu Shi and other celebrities. Its supply sources include Tokyo, Florence, and many North American cities. Over the past few decades, as the owners acquired books and manuscripts from collectors for their business, they, in turn, began to collect paintings and calligraphy to form the collection of Classical and Modern works as we present to you now.
