Lot Essay

Deng Chengxiu, who styled himself as Tiexiang and Bone, was a native of Huiyang, Guangdong province, and a Juren during the Xianfeng era. As a calligrapher who was skilful at writing in running and regular scripts, Deng’s narrow yet firm brush strokes earned him the appellation ‘an iron painting with silver hooks’.
