Huang Siyong, who styled himself as Shenzhi and Yipiao, was a native of Jiangsu, Ningjiang province, a Zhuangyuan (first-place holder during the Imperial examinations) during the Guangxu reign, a modern Chinese industrialist and a calligrapher. He specialised in small regular script and was the representative of Qing Zhuangyuan calligraphers.

We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture. -There are multiple mould spots all over the work, especially at the first line; -there is a horizontal crease at the lower right quadrant of the first line; -it is in our opinion that the work is in overall very good condition.
