IMPERIAL ENCYCLOPAEDIA / A PRINTED RIVERS AND PEAKS BY WANG HUI / A PRINTED SET OF RUBBINGS
Imperial Encyclopaedia is the existing vast category book in China which was the edited by scholar Chen Menglei (1650-1741) and Jiang Tingxi (1669-1732) during the reigns of Qing Dynasty emperors Kangxi and Yongzheng. Topics covered included natural phenomena, geography, history, literature, and government.
This collection was built up by a private Japanese collector during the early 20th Century. Fifteen lots of Chinese classical paintings and calligraphy (Lots 1012-1026) will be offered in the Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy, and four lots of modern works (Lots 1455-1458) will be offered in our Fine Chinese Modern Paintings sale on 27 November 2018.

Imperial Encyclopaedia: -There are multiple rips and mould stains full of the books especially on the edges of pages, the paper are yellowing -There are multiple scratchs on the box, especially a major long rupture at the left side of the box, and the door of the box cannot be locked -It is in our opinion that the works are in overall good condition.
A Printed Landscape of Wang Hui’s Rivers and Peaks: -The paper of a set of three rubbings and a printed landscape album are yellowing and full of stains and rips -There are multiple scratchs and rupture on the cover -They are in our opinion that the works are in very good condition
