A native of Lin’an (Modern day Hangzhou in Zhejiang province) during the late 18th to early 19th century, Jiang Jiapu was also known as Taijiao, and had the courtesy name of Dalai. He went to Japan in 1804 and together with Yi Fujiu, Zhang Qiugu and Fei Qinghu was known as one of the Four Chinese Masters in Japan.
