Lot Essay

Li Tiefu, born in Heshan, Guangdong, was one of the earliest artists to study Western oil paintings abroad in the late 19th Century. In 1912, he was already an associate professor in New York. In 1935, his paintings were exhibited in Hong Kong and received high praise from Xu Beihong.
