Lot Essay

Born in Chengdu and raised in Beijing, Chen Fan, styled as Youchuan and Banriwuzhu, is a painter and photographer who was a member of the Stars group and the April Photo Society. With a passion for artistic creation, he has been extensively involved in the promotion of photography and film technologies. An internationally renowned contemporary artist, Chen Fan’s works have been exhibited and collected in many countries.

Born in Beijing, Ling Zifeng was formerly known as Ling Feng and Ling Xiangqiang. He studied oil painting, sculpture as well as stage art, and later taught at the Lu Xun Academy of Art’s drama department. A prominent director, screenwriter, and actor, Ling’s brilliant and imaginative works frequently astounded and amazed his audience. Among other accolades, his film Rickshaw Boy won the Best Feature Film Award at the 3rd Golden Rooster Award in 1982, and he won the Best Director Award for Border Town at the 5th Golden Rooster Award in 1984. As a teen in 1959, Chen Fan played the part of Zhu Huzi in Ling’s Keep the Red Flag Flying film. Having met Ling’s son, Ling Fei, during the filming, Chen later actively assisted and supported Ling Fei’s 80 ㎡ youth photography salon.
