Lot Essay

Shou Xi, a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, who styled himself as Shigong, was a well-known seal engraver and literati in modern Chinese history and also skilled in calligraphy and poetry. He was also a member of the South Society, the largest literature and poetry organization during the late Qing Dynasty and the early period of the Republic, and The Lake Society, an art association based in Beijing.
