Lot Essay

Wen Yongchen was a Hong Kong artist who specialised in painting butterflies and children, as well as calligraphy. He created particularly charming images of children flying kites. What appears to be the string of the kite is in fact miniature calligraphy written by the artist, sometimes even including English text. Similarly, on his paintings of butterflies the antennae are also miniature calligraphy.
