Lot Essay

The masters of the Mei Yuan Tang Collection are a couple who befriended several artists, and most importantly became a student of Zhu Qizhan (1892-1996). Zhu gifted many works to the couple, and named their studio the Mei Yuan Tang (Plum Blossom Friendship Studio) to commemorate their friendship (Zhu Qizhan’s own studio name is the Plum Blossom Cottage).
