Lot Essay

A native of Qingyuan, Guangdong province, Zhu Ruzhen, styled as Yutang, was the last bangyan (second place holder) of the Chinese Imperial Examination System. During the Republic of China period, Zhu devoted himself to cultural education and established the Hong Kong Confucius Academy; and in the early days of the Second Sino-Japanese War, he was involved in charity work.
