Lot Essay

A native of Yuyao, Zhejiang province, Zhu Yuanshu, styled as Zhifen, was a Juren and a famous minister during the late Qing dynasty. He had studied abroad at Tokyo Hosei University in his early adulthood, and dedicated himself to charity work in his final years. For his calligraphic work, along with Qian Chongwei, Song Yude, and Lan Yunping, the four are known as the ‘Four Hanlin.’
