Specialist Note:
Wen Yongchen was an artist in Hong Kong that specializes in painting butterflies and children in addition to calligraphy. The most special of his works are those of children flying kites (LOT 1634). What appears to be the string of the kite is in fact miniature written by the artist himself, and sometimes even include writing in English. Similarly, on his paintings of butterflies, the antennae were also miniature writing. He also was good friends with other artists based in Hong Kong, such as Zhao Shao’ang, Feng Kanghou, etc., and received calligraphic works and paintings from them (LOT 1633). In addition, there are also many collaborative works between them (LOT 1635).
