Lot Essay
The present brush pot is interesting as it is unfinished and provides a fascinating insight to planning of the composition and shows different stages of carving the relief decoration. A green jade brush pot of similar size (17 cm.), carved with scholars in a continuous mountain landscape, was sold at Christie's New York, 19-20 September 2013, lot 1743, where it was dated to Qianlong period (1736-1795).
