AN UNUSUAL BRONZE CYLINDRICAL TRIPOD VESSEL AND COVER
EASTERN ZHOU DYNASTY (770-356 BC)
The tall, cylindrical vessel is raised on three stylized ram-form supports and decorated around the sides with continuous bands of addorsed birds, interrupted by mask handles on either side that are attached to chain links that are joined by a U-shaped dragon-form handle. The cover is similarly decorated. The vessel has a pale green patina with some brownish inclusions.
