Lot Essay

Series of four original 4 12 x 6 12 in. and one 8 x 10 in. black and white photos taken during the Goodwill Tour of Korea by Monroe and her husband Joe DiMaggio. The images picture Monroe performing with her "Anything Goes" band members. The lot includes one 8 x 10 in. image of the band only (no Marilyn) which is signed on the back from the band to Marilyn noting that they were thrilled to have worked with her. This inscription further corroborates the direct provenance to having originated directly from Marilyn's personal collection within the DiMaggio estate. Marilyn would later recount the meaning of the trip to entertain the troops commenting, "I never thought I had an effect on people until I was in Korea. It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me." Smaller photos have blank backs with light pencil notated number on each. Originated from the personal collection of Joe DiMaggio. Encapsuled individually by PSA/DNA with "DiMaggio Collection" labeling: NM
