Gandy Brodie was a friend of Emily Mason and Wolf Kahn with whom they would attend openings and parties in New York City. Brodie was included in the 1957 Recent Acquisitions exhibition at MoMA, which was Kahn’s first exhibition there.

The canvas is not lined. Abrasion to the extreme edges and associated pigment loss. Overall with surface soiling and scattered fine lines of craquelure. Thin wood strips nailed to each edge, possibly by the artist. The work has been treated with a varnish, now slightly clouded. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
