Lester Johnson was a very close friend who studied under Hans Hofmann alongside Wolf Kahn in the late 1940s. In 1951, Kahn organized the 813 Broadway Exhibition, including Johnson’s work, which gave rise to the artists’ cooperative Hansa Gallery.

Minor abrasion to the extreme edges. Overall with minor surface soiling and scattered fine lines of craquelure, notably to the upper left quadrant and to the man's head. Thin strips of wood nailed to each edge, possibly by the artist. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
