Lester Johnson was a very close friend who studied under Hans Hofmann alongside Wolf Kahn in the late 1940s. In 1951, Kahn organized the 813 Broadway Exhibition, including Johnson’s work, which gave rise to the artists’ cooperative Hansa Gallery.

Profile with minor abrasion to the extreme edges. With surface soiling, wear and abrasions to the high points, notably at the upper left corner, a small area at the center, a small area in the lower left quadrant and the upper edge. Scattered fine lines of craquelure and one area of paint lifting in the lower left quadrant. Thin strips of wood nailed to each edge, possibly by the artist. Seated man with minor surface soiling, light staining and slight undulation to the sheet. A few scattered pinpoints of foxing. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
