William Hubbs Mechling was an anthropologist, who studied the peoples of the North West coast of North America. Some of his essays are amongst the Meinhard Papers in the Manuscript Collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford.

In good condition overall. There are the inevitable minor marks, surface scratches, knocks and wear consistent with age and handling. The reverse with a natural inclusion in the wood, which has cracked and a few small rough natural inclusions to the front near the base. As catalogued, on a bespoke modern base (the measurements given as mounted).
