Lot Essay

Bi Baichuan, who was originally from the Tianjin area, was an artist active in the Minguo period. Like his teacher Xu Yansun (1899-1961), he excelled in the meticulous style of painting and created compositions inspired by such early masters as Song and Yuan-dynasty artists, and Qiu Ying, as noted in his inscriptions on his paintings. belongs to an American naval officer who visited Tianjin in autumn 1945 and spent time visiting local sites.
