Hemingway sends an update to his son, Jack, who was nicknamed "Bumby." He begins by commenting on the date and how he accompanied the troops at Normandy: "It doesn't seem like 12 yrs since we hit Omaha (Fox Green). It seems like yest. or 112 years..." He mentions sending checks, word from Jack's brothers, and friends he hears from regularly. He reports that Joe Dryer and Nancy are visiting Venice, where they will bring "a cocktail pitcher from Harry's" to replace one that had broken. He closes with "Kiss." The letter is together with a brief typed note—"Friday - Later - Day's clearing good."— with a sketch of a mountain with snow blowing.
