RAOUL-ROCHETTE, Désiré (1789-1854). Choix de Peintures de Pompei. Paris: Adolphe Labitte, 1867.

Later reissue of an important French study on the iconography of Pompeii. The sensational discovery of the House of the Tragic Poet in November 1824 drew Raoul-Rochette, curator of antiquities at the Bibliotheque Royale, to Pompeii and inspired a series of publications. The lithographs here, arranged by subject, were produced by Henri Roux after his death for Engelmann et Graf, the company created by Godefroy Engelmann, who brought lithography to France. Not in Berlin Katalog.

Two parts in one, folio (608 x 431mm). 28 chromolithographs interleaved with tissue guards, small in-text vignettes at head of every chapter some of which are in color (dampstain in blank top margin, some other spots and stains). Modern black quarter morocco.
