SERVETUS, Michael (1511-1553). Christianismi Restitutio. [Nuremberg: Christoph Gottlieb von Murr, 1790.]

Rare 18th century facsimile of Servetus's 1533 magnum opus in which the lesser circulation is mentioned in print for the first time. The work had circulated in manuscript as early as 1546 and then was secretly printed at Vienne, France, where Servetus practiced medicine. Considered a heretic, he was burnt at the stake in 1533 by order of Calvin—as was nearly the entire first edition of 1000 copies, of which only three are located. See Garrison and Morton 754 (for the first edition); PMM 78.

Octavo (186 x 110mm). Errata leaf at end. 19th-century marbled boards, edges stained red (rebacked). Provenance: ink notations – Bibliotheca Publica Basileensis  (stamps).
