KING, Martin Luther Jr. (1929-1968). Typed letter signed ("Martin L King J") to Rev. Clifton M. Weihe, Atlanta, 27 April 1964.

One page, 279 x 214mm, on SCLC letterhead (creased, some foxing and fading).

Weile, Director of the San Fernando Valley Project in Van Nuys, California, wrote to King urging African American civil rights group expand their advocacy to include Indigenous Americans. King thought his "suggestion for need of Negro groups to come out with a strong cry of justice for the Indian is timely indeed. Such a move would be creative democracy, morally sound and strategically wise." He also assured Weise that he would "be very happy to talk to some of the other Negro leaders about it."
