WHEELOCK, Eleazar. A plain and faithful Narrative of the Original Design, Rise, Progress and present State of the Indian Charity-School at Lebanon, in Connecticut. Boston: Richard and Samuel Draper, 1763.

First edition of the first report on the institution that would later become Dartmouth. The first in a series of reports on Wheelock's first years running a school to train Native Americans as Christian missionaries from 1754 to 1762. By virtue of Lebanon Connecticut's great distance from the frontier, Wheelock had some trouble attracting students, eventually resolving to move the school further north to Hanover, New Hampshire, where it was chartered as Dartmouth College. Evans 9537. Sabin 103205. Streeter, 4062.

Quarto, 207 x 131mm. Disbound (loss at bottom margin of final page, some foxing throughout).
