Malraux's first book and Léger's first original illustrations. Limited edition with original woodcuts, signed by both artist and author on the colophon. No. 47 of 90 copies printed on Hollande Van Gelder from a total edition of 112. Léger had collaborated with Blaise Cendrars on two previous books but both of these were illustrated with reproductions. The Artist & The Book: 1860-1960, no. 163; From Manet to Hockney, cat. 64.

Quarto (320 x 226mm). With seven woodcuts by Léger, comprising one on the cover plus three full-page, and three in text; illustrating the three chapters of Malraux's text (a few scattered tiny spots, chiefly to half-title). Original wrappers (some toning and light creasing to wrappers and endpapers, two tears and some rubbing to backstrip).
