First edition of the first history of the Mennonites. Hermann Schyn, or Schijn, was a Mennonite leader in the Netherlands who published several works dealing with the Anabaptist sect. He was particularly interested in the Mennonite immigrants to Germantown, Pennsylvania, who had settled there seeking religious toleration under the aegis of Quaker William Penn. Sabin 78106.

16mo (158 x 95mm). Title printed in red and black, woodcut initials and typographic ornaments (a little light dustsoiling at ends). Modern calf. Provenance: British Museum (stamps, including "1881 Duplicate for Sale") – New College, Edinburgh (stamps with "duplicate sale" overstamped).
