The first edition of Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address" in book form, preceded only by newspaper printings and a rare 16-page pamphlet printed for the Washington Daily Morning Chronicle (printed c. 23-24 November 1863). Here, Lincoln's more famous speech is not noted in the title and appears in the text only after Edward Everett's 29-page oration (p. 40). An appendix includes reports, a detailed account of the Dedication Day ceremonies, and various accounts of the battlefield. Carbonnell 3a; Howes E233; Monaghan 193; Sabin 23263; Streeter sale 1747.

Octavo (230 x 136 mm). (Faint dampstains to title page, occassional light soiling at margins). Titled wrappers as issued (faint dampstains toward lower margin of front wrapper, marginal wear, and some fraying at upper and lower ends of spine). Blue cloth slipcase and matching chemise. Provenance: G. Bradford? (ownership signature on title page).
