EINSTEIN, Albert (1879 -1955). Autograph letter signed ("A. Einstein") [to Wander de Haas , Lieden,] 12 December 1923.

In German. One page, 212 X 169mm, light original mailing folds, some fading.

Einstein writes from Leiden, where he held a visiting professorship, and where he had fled following rumours that there was a threat to his life in Berlin. Here, he explains to de Haas that he would not be able to visit him in Groningen on his return to Berlin ("auf der Heimreis") as he needed to make stops in Ede and Eindhoven—both on the opposite side of the Netherlands ("die ganz entgegengesetzt liegen"). However, he planned to return to the Netherlands in May, writing that he hoped "to make up for what I've missed."
