FLAGG, James Montgomery (1870-1960). I WANT YOU. New York: Leslie - Judge Co., 1917.

A fine example of Flagg's immortal First World War recruiting poster. In an effort to cut costs (and not hire a model) Flagg crafted Uncle Sam in his own image. From there the poster took on a life of its own, becoming so familiar and recognizable that the military reused the image during the Second World War.

Lithograph, 1036 x 760 mm. backed with linen (light edgewear, a few spots of discoloration and minor surface abrasions). Stamp: "TH & PA , AVE, N.W." at bottom.
