French-language edition with hand-colored title-page heightened in gold. Joseph Basnage’s biblical history accompanied by Romeyn de Hooghe's masterful engravings from Henricus Vos’ 1703 Alle de voornaamste historien des Ouden en Nieuwen Testaments. Stated eighth edition. Two parts in one, folio (370 x 230mm). Engraved title-pages by de Hooghe and leaves of explanation with 2 vignettes for both parts, 2 full-page engraved portraits, first part with printed title and an inserted dedication and subscribers' list with vignette, 5 double-page maps and 1 view by de Hooghe, 140 engraved illustrations by or after de Hooghe with most printed 2 to the page, 30 further unsigned vignettes, head- and tailpieces; the first part’s engraved title and vignettes on facing leaf are hand-colored and heightened in gold (some leaves slightly browned, very occasional spotting, 10 mm tear to 2K2 and 30mm tear to 2M3). Contemporary Dutch mottled calf, large central gilt device of Christ, Moses, angles and others surrounding an armillary sphere inscribed with the motto “Libera nos a malo” (slightly rubbed and corners bumped).
