MILNE, A.A. (1882-1956). When We Were Very Young. 1925. * Winnie-the-Pooh. 1926. * Now We Are Six. 1927. * The House at Pooh Corner. 1928. Decorations by Ernest H. Shepard. London: Methuen & Co., 1925-1928.

Complete set of the Pooh books in special publisher’s pictorial leather bindings and original boxes. All are first editions with the exception of When We Were Very Young, which is the stated 7th edition, published in 1925. It is presumed to be the first edition in this pictorial leather binding, issued to be uniform with the first edition of the next in the series, Winnie-the-Pooh. The special leather bindings, the original boxes, and the original glassine wrappers, make this a very rare set.

Four volumes, octavo. Half-titles. Illustrated by E.H. Shepard. (First work with heavy black ink mark to half-title.) Original red or blue leather, pictorially stamped in gilt, pictorial endpapers, all edges gilt (occasional hint of rubbing to board edges, a couple of ownership inscriptions); plain glassine jackets except for on first title (tattered); publisher's boxes, the lids with printed cover labels (wear to boxes). Provenance: Sotheby’s 21 November 1996, lot 87 (three of the titles) – Sotheby’s 16 December 2004, lots 329, 330, 332, 334.
