JAMES, Henry (1843-1916). The Princess Casamassima. London: Macmillan and Co., 1886.

A lovely copy of the first edition, from the library of Barton Currie. The novels of Henry James were known to be frequent companions of Maurice Sendak's, and his personal collection included sketches for an unpublished edition of the story The Turn of the Screw. Edel & Laurence A29.

Three volumes, octavo (190 x 129mm). Half titles, 2 pp. ads at rear of each vols 2 & 3 (a little foxing internally at beginning and end). Original dark blue-green cloth (a little rubbing at tips and extremities, small split to cloth of vol. 1 at lower joint). Custom box by Zaehnsdorf. Provenance: Percy Scawen Wyndham (bookplate; 1835-1911) – Barton Currie (1877-1962; bookplate; his sale, Parke-Bernet, 7 & 8 May 1963, lot 230).
