LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Partly-printed document signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President, Washington, 11 November 1861.

One page, bifolium, 212 x 252mm. (paper quite brittle and toned, particularly to the edges. Original joined edge since separated, pages secured together at bottom edge via small strip of tape, a few marginal tears with some inkstaining at left edge.)

Lincoln instructs the Secretary of State to affix the seal to an envelope sent to the President of Peru, which accredits Christopher Robinson as the Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Peru. Robinson, a graduate of Brown University, was elected Attorney General of Rhode Island in 1854, served two years in Congress from 1859 to 1861, then served as the Minister of Peru from 1861 until 1865 ("ROBINSON, Christopher," Biographical Directory of the United States Congress).
