[ZATTA, Antonio (fl. 1757-1797)] – RAYNAL, Guillaume Thomas Francois (1713-1796). Storia dell' America Settentrionale del Signor Abate Raynal. Continuata fine al presente, con Carte Geografiche rapprensentanti it teatro della Guerra Civile tra la Gran Bretagna, et la Colonie Unite. Venice: Antonio Zatta, 1778.

A fine example of the first publication of Zatta's interpretation of John Mitchell's famous map of America. The atlas starts with a map of Bermuda inset on the engraved title-page, followed by a general map of the 13 British colonies in North America entitled "Il Canada." The next 12 sheets can be assembled to form one large wall-map of the North American continent after Mitchell’s map "Map of the British and French Dominions in North America," first published in 1755. The accompanying text by Abbé Raynal (1713-1796), includes an account of each of the thirteen American colonies, Hudson's Bay, Canada and Louisiana. Cf. Phillips Atlases 650; Sabin 68109.

Two parts in one volume, folio (430 x 290mm). Engraved title with inset map of Bermuda, 15 fine double-page folding engraved maps, hand-colored in outline, engraved initials and head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary Italian patterned paper over limp paste-board, printed paper spine label (spine slightly faded, extremities lightly rubbed with slight loss to spine label).
