POTTER, Beatrix (1866-1943). The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle. London: Frederick Warne, 1905.

Presentation copy of the first edition, inscribed and signed by the author at the time of publication on the front free endpaper: “For Theresa Thorp, with love from Beatrix Potter, Oct 15 ’05.” Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was published in September 1905 and this is the earliest presentation copy we locate. Two other early presentation copies from Beatrix Potter to Theresa Thorp were in the Collamore Collection catalogued by Quinby. Linder, p. 425; Quinby 8.

12mo. Color frontispiece and 26 color plates by Beatrix Potter (lacking half title). (Closed tear to frontispiece.) Original green boards with pictorial cover label, pictorial endpapers (spine chipped with portion lacking, front hinge broken with an old reinforcement, title and following leaf detached and laid in). Provenance: Theresa Thorp (presentation inscription) – Harry Bacon Collamore, noted Potter collector of Hartford, Connecticut (bookplate opposite half-title).
