POTTER, Beatrix (1866-1943). The Tale of Two Bad Mice. London: Frederick Warne, 1904.

Fine first edition, in deluxe binding. It is believed that Beatrix Potter was involved with the cloth cover design because she said in one of her letters to Warne, “I will do some sketches of designs for the cover while I am at Melford” (Linder, p. 153). Linder, p. 424; Quinby 7(3).

12mo. Color frontispiece and 26 color plates by Beatrix Potter. Original maroon cloth gilt, pictorial cover label, pictorial endpapers, all edges gilt. (1908 gift inscription on the half title.) Provenance: Doris Frohnsdorff (her sale, Christie’s East, 16 April 1997, lot 38).
