Limited, copyright edition, no. 54 of 100 copies. This story was first conceived by Beatrix Potter in 1909 as “The Little Black Kettle” and was intermittently revised. However, it did not appear in print until 1944 when it first appeared in the Anniversary Issue of the Horn Book. According to the copyright statement, Potter had last revised this story “late in the autumn of 1943.” Linder, p. 432.
